Taking care of your braces

Taking care of your braces and maintaining good oral hygiene is essential for achieving a healthy, beautiful smile. By focusing on your gum care, managing plaque buildup, and making mindful dietary choices, you’ll ensure that your orthodontic treatment is as effective as possible.

Oral Hygiene

  • Brush your teeth with gentle circles at a 45 degree angle between the braces and the gums.  Brush around all surfaces of teeth and all parts of the braces.

  • Brush 3x a day for 3 minutes, and after any meal, snack, or sugary beverage.

  • Floss with orthodontic flossers (Eg., Platypus flossers, Superflossers, Floss threaders). You can use an interproximal brush under the wires as well.

  • Plaque accumulation on the teeth can lead to permanent demineralization, staining, and cavities on the teeth, as well as swollen, irritated gums.
